What qualifications does the HKSAR government require?

Ans: Overseas applicants need a degree from a recognised University. Locally recruited teachers must satisfy the HKSAR government that they have passed English to 'O' Level standard.

   
 

What qualifications does RTL require?

Ans: In addition to the above, we will expect you to have a TOEFL qualification and to have previous teaching experience at a quality institution.

   
 

How many students do I teach?

Ans: You will need to teach around 60-80 students per week in small classes of four students.

   
 

How old are the students?

Ans: Other divisions of the company may ask if you want to teach adults or employees as well. Children: 3 to 18 years old.

   
 

How many hours do I teach per week? Will I write student reports?

Ans: Full-time teachers teach 30 hours per week.

Ans: Part-time teachers teach less than 18 hours per week.

   
 

Do I have to prepare my own lessons?

Ans: No. All lessons are pre-planned. Depending on the age group, each lesson follows a seven page book consisting of reading pages, work pages, activity pages and a brief test at the end of the book. The teacher is expected to follow the teaching instructions and teach the contents of the book to the whole class (each student has their own book, but will be on the same page of the book). Ready To Learn’s curriculum consists of 500 books for children aged3 to 18 years old.

   
 

How many students do I teach?

Ans: If you’re recruited from overseas, we will (generally speaking) pay your air-fare. However, you’ll be contractually obliged to reimburse us for the full air-fare if you break your contract. Your visa will take 10 weeks to process. Upon issue, we will send your contract, ticket and visa to your home country address. You will be provided with a medical scheme and accommodation (on a sharing basis, 6 people per house). We will meet you at the airport, help you settle in and be able to provide you with all the advice you need until you’re comfortable living in Hong Kong.

   
 

Can I stay on in Hong Kong after my contract finishes?

Ans:Yes, if you are still working with us on a new contract.
